5 Questions to Help You Get UNSTUCK

Let me ask you – what do you do when you feel stuck? 

Let’s say, there’s something about yourself or your situation that you are trying to change, but you just don’t know how.

Maybe you find the same pattern repeating over and over again.

Usually, in such situations the question most of us ask is WHY – why am I this way? Why do I keep doing this?

And that is the problem. 

Asking why does not always help. Not only does asking why not generate any additional insight. If anything, it can keep us stuck in a negative place.

What’s a better alternative – instead of WHY, as Tasha Eurich writes in her book Insight, ask more WHAT questions.

Instead of “Why do I always hesitate to speak up?”
Ask “What can I do to speak up more?”

Instead of “Why do I keep going back to old habits?”
Ask “What could I do differently that will make me stick to this habit?”

Instead of “Why is my life or career this way?”
Ask “What is one small thing I could do improve my life or career?”

Where a why question keeps us stuck, a WHAT question has the power to open up your mind to new solutions and new ideas, which can help you move forward.

Here are 5 questions that can help you get UNSTUCK:

  • What do I REALLY want?
  • What do I gain by staying where I am?
  • What do I lose by staying where I am?
  • Who would I become if I change this situation?
  • What is a small action I can take today to move forward?
