Dear Friend,

I came across this statement in a post on my LinkedIn Feed the other day, and it got me thinking.

“The 3 most important choices you’ll make in life are…

Which city you live in.
Who you marry.
And, what work you do.”

Right?

Think again.

We place a lot of weight on these decisions.

I know I myself have agonized over every one of these decisions.

But do they really make or break you?

Yes and No.

Yes, these decisions matter and yes, they influence your level of happiness.

And no, they are not as important as one would believe.

☀️ What matters more than that ONE CHOICE are the several MICRO CHOICES one makes on a continual basis, as Sukhinder Cassidy mentions in her book, Choose Possibility. ☀️

To think one SINGLE CHOICE can make or break you is a MYTH.

👉🏻 You could be in the greatest city in the world, and still feel isolated.

👉🏻 You could be working in an amazing organization, and still be unhappy.

👉🏻 You could be married to the most wonderful person, and still feel disconnection.

No one city
No one person
No one job

Can save you OR destroy you.

👉🏻 It’s not the city itself, but the many choices that you make to make that city work for you that determines your quality of life.

👉🏻 It’s not just the person you marry, but the many micro choices you make every single day to cultivate that relationship that determines how healthy and happy that relationship becomes.

👉🏻 It’s not just the nature of the work that you do, but the attitude you bring to it every single day that determines how satisfying it is.

In placing too much weight on that one big choice, we forget the level of power and influence we have to continually shape and reshape our lives through the conscious micro-choices we make every single day.
