Dear Friend,

Have you ever paid close attention to the courtroom drama that happens in your mind?

It’s like there are two lawyers constantly arguing on opposite sides of YOUR case.

One, let’s call it Lawyer A, is arguing for your limitations, and tempting you to make the easier and safer choices

Lawyer A is loud, convincing and also downright mean at times.

And the other, Lawyer B, is rooting for you, wishing for you to succeed, and arguing for you to do the hard things.

Lawyer B is soft spoken, gentle yet firm.

I hear both of them. Every. Single. Day.

My alarm goes off at 5 a.m…

Lawyer A: “The bed is so cozy and warm right now. Hit snooze. Go back to sleep!”
Lawyer B:  “Come on, you can do this. You’re a proud member of the 5 a.m. club, remember. Start your day off well!”

I look at the hardest things on my To-Do list…

Lawyer A: “This looks painful. You don’t need to tackle this today. Leave it for tomorrow.”
Lawyer B: “Do it now. Get it over and done with. Then you’ll have more energy and focus for other things.”

It’s time to workout…

Lawyer A: “Skip this one. Your last workout was so intense. What difference is it going to make anyway. You are never getting that 6-pack.”
Lawyer B: “Don’t focus on how you are feeling right now. Focus on how you’ll feel after the workout is over. And, it’s ok if it’s not your toughest workout today. Just show up.”

Which lawyer wins?

The one who is paid more.

Not with money.

But with your ATTENTION.

You can lean in to hear the soft but firm whispers of the lawyer genuinely rooting for you, OR the loud and obnoxious lawyer will win every single time.

You choose.

Who is winning the courtroom battle in your mind today?
